Arthur Flitner was a man of small stature but big dreams. When he first arrived in Shell Valley in 1905, he saw a small oasis of green fertile land lying along the base of the spectacular Bighorns. He fell in love with the country and the climate. The next spring he returned to Shell Valley with his wife, Anna and their three children. He bought 160 acres at $20 per acre, established the Flitner Ranch, and began to live his American dream.

The Flitner Ranch has been a working cattle operation since that time. Arthur’s son Howard, and his wife Maureen, managed the ranch as did their son David.

Today, David and his son, Greg, carry on The Flitner Ranch tradition. Together they have taken Flitner Ranch to a new level by utilizing state-of-the-art techniques to their cattle ranch and horse breeding operations.

"Preserving the ranching tradition of the Old West."
